FRANKLINVILLE–Author Michael T. Keene will discuss his new book, “Abandoned: The Untold Story of Orphan Asylums,” in a
program sponsored by the Ischua Valley Historical Society, tomorrow, 7 p.m., in the Miner’s Cabin, 9 Pine St.
“He’s going to be talking about orphanages, the Orphan Train and so forth,” said Village of Franklinville Historian Maggie Frederickson, adding that the Orphan Train was a movement that transported orphaned and homeless children from overpopulated Eastern cities to the Midwest in the mid-1800s to mid-1900s.
“We’ve had him here before and he’s an excellent speaker,” said Frederickson.
Last year, Keene spoke on the madhouses in New York State.
The talk is free and open to the public. Keene will have copies of his book available for purchase and a book signing will follow his speech.
